Why your perfect pup can act up: Especially when you need them to behave like when traveling!

You get anxiety sometimes, when things change quickly, your in a new situation, or something isn’t your way- so why wouldn’t your perfect pup? When pets travel they can easily become anxious, nervous, or just scared. They are in new situations-they are with new smells even when their human parents are right there with them the WHOLE experience can be enough for your fussy fido to want to flee the whole scene! So what do you do to prevent them from acting out or just shutting down?

When traveling with your best friends make sure they feel as comfortable as possible. To ensure their comfort and bring along their favorite toys, and places them in their beds or crates. According to dog studies when dogs have their toys they feel as if an area is theirs, in the wild wolves have their territory and they mark it with their scents. Well toys are the modern day scent marker for your pup, so bringing along their territory can make them less anxious when being separated from their home base.

Keep your pet regular by keeping their diet that way! Vets recommended to change your pets food gradually, this is even more important when traveling.  Not only will it save you accidents but it will save your pets from getting tummy aches.  Pack extra food then you would think they need and even avoid buying food for them on the road, even the strongest toughest pups can get sick on the road, and this wont make for any fun adventures.

To stop your good boy(or girl) from going bad, keep your house  rules even when traveling.  If you don’t allow bella on the bed, or cam to jump on the couch then make sure you keep your “off” command when on the road so you don’t confuse them.  Dogs learn from repetition and rewards, so keep this in mind so you don’t end up writing into the dog whispers section good dogs gone bad! Keeping your home rules on the road is a simple exercise that enforces discipline and is good for both furry baby and parent!

All in all traveling can be stressful for everyone, but sometimes the most fun you have is the travel to get to the destination. The most important thing to remember is that when you are traveling with your best friend on adventure or just pet-cation your going to have fun and just enjoy each other and family time!
